When we learn and use a programming language, We must always know the newest updates from the organizations which develop or standardize the programming language. It is also necessary that we always be active in an online community of software developers who also learn and use the same programming language.
These are the list of organizations and online communities which are important in our JavaScript learning journey:
- European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA)
ECMA is an organization in Geneva, Switzerland, which standardizes Information & Communication Technology and Consumer Electronics products. It was founded in 1961 to standardize computer systems in Europe. The members of this organization are small to big companies worldwide that produce, market or develop computer or communication systems, and have interest and experience in the areas addressed by the group’s technical bodies.
Its name has changed from ECMA to Ecma since 1994 because this organization has global reach and activities. Ecma is no longer considered as an acronym of “European Computer Manufacturers Association” and no longer uses capital letters.
ECMA-262 is the standard or Language Specification of JavaScript and ECMAScript is the official name of JavaScript.
